Dragon*Con 2008: Saturday

James Marsters

James Marsters

The first panel of the day was Torchwood with Anthony Lewis, Gareth David Lloyd, and James. Frankly, I don’t watch the show. I tried when it premiered here in the U.S. but I just couldn’t get into it. I wasn’t interested in the panel, but I realized something the night before. I paid a lot to go to a party featuring James and this dude from TW. I should at least find out what he looks like. Plus, the panel took place in our own hotel, meaning very little walking was needed. Always a good thing at a con.

Dragon*Con 2008

I’d been a little wishy-washy about attending Dragon*Con this year. Last year was my first, and though I thought it was okay, I wasn’t sure I would give it another try. Well, I’m SO happy that I did! I had a complete blast and I’m so sad it’s over. It’s been a while since I felt genuine sadness that a con was over. In recent times, it’s mostly been a relief, and probably because I worked those cons. Dragon*Con went by too fast and I really miss all my friends. I certainly enjoyed the con more this year versus last year, mainly because I did much more this time.

I had, as usual, absolutely wonderful roomies: [info]seapea, [info]jaesha, [info]oanimation, and [info]mad_brilliant_. Thank you [info]mad_brilliant_ for having the foresight to book in advance! Also, all their all-night efforts certainly paid off, and I’m so incredibly thankful to them for that.

It was awesome seeing [info]angstchic, [info]eyesthatslay, [info]musing_mia, [info]psubrat, [info]zoonut, [info]vampgaia, [info]thefangirl, [info]lightdependent, [info]jameslovin1, [info]ladyanne04, [info]rock_room, [info]soulmate815, and [info]zeta0497. I hope I’m not forgetting anyone… Likewise, I really missed not seeing [info]sandy_s.

Over the weekend I took TONS of photos of all the panels I attended. I’m not kidding when I say tons, either. I definitely went overboard and I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to get through all of the photos. Especially since I have to send my computer in for repair this week and oh yeah… that little thing called school (and let’s not even mention that I’m nowhere near settled into my new location). I’ll try my best, though, and hopefully I’ll be able to get out as many photos as possible.

James Marsters: Spring Fever 2007

Alright, so here are my brief-ish reports of all the JM-related events I attended in the UK (which just happens to be all *g*). Since it’s been a while, the details are fuzzy, but if you’re curious, do read on… :o)

Grand Slam 2007

A couple of weeks ago I attended Creation Entertainment’s Grand Slam Sci Fi Summit. I’d never attended a Creation event, and wasn’t sure what to expect. It definitely wasn’t as big as I thought it would be, which was kind of nice! Most of the guest stars were of Star Trek origin, although there were also guests from Highlander, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, the Harry Potter movies, oh and of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was my reason for attending. Despite having very little knowledge of some of the shows, I genuinely enjoyed several of the guest panels, especially Battlestar Galactica’s and Smallville’s Justin Hartley was incredibly charming and a total laugh riot.

IMG_7078James Marsters was the scheduled BtVS guest; he did Q&A’s on both Saturday and Sunday and a concert Saturday night. Many of the questions asked are some I’ve heard before and a few others were new and interesting. At the moment, none in particular stick out, but his Q&A’s were certainly very entertaining. It never ceases to amaze me how much energy this guy has, making it extra hard to snap photos. He was incredibly bouncy at this event and very smiley and much fun to see.

IMG_7297For the Saturday night concert, James sang several old favorites and some new ones. He was suppose to explain the stories behind some of his songs… as a friend expressed, though, he has way too many songs apologizing to his girlfriends. One that isn’t about apologizing, though, is This Town, which is definitely one of my favorite songs. Granted, I don’t interpret the song the way James sees it. Whereas he says that it’s about unrequited love, I think it’s more about two people trying to make a life together. I like this interpretation, so I’m sticking to it. I might be wrong, but I believe someone mentioned that this concert was the longest he’s ever done, with a total of 25 songs. Oooh! And he had another guitarist accompany him, which added a lot of depth to several of his songs. I think there are still a few kinks they need to work out, but it definitely sounded great! I hope the guitarist will accompany him all the way to London, where James will be doing a few concerts. That would be very neat!

I posted some photos of the weekend in the Gallery. Mostly James, but I do have some Adrian Paul and Battlestar Galactica photos coming in the near future. Those probably won’t be posted until I get back from the UK, though. I’m going to have quite a backlog by then, though, since I plan on taking many, many photos while traveling. I can’t wait to see Dublin!

Cons and photos

Slowly, but surely I am adding photos from the conventions I attended this summer. I’m still working on some from July’s Comic-Con, I’ve posted a handful from the BE Blowout, which consisted mostly of Veronica Mars cast members (some of the hottest ones, too!), and the most recent, James Marsters & Friends at the Queen Mary. That was a very cool and incredibly unique convention. Out of all the cons I attended, though, I have to admit that this is my favorite shot so far…

Comic Con 2006

This post is being made so after the fact, but I finally added some of the pics I took at Comic Con in San Diego to the Gallery. I added all my pics of David Boreanaz and Hart Hanson (from the Fox TV show Bones), as well as pics of castmember from Battlestar Galactica and Veronica Mars. While waiting for another panel to start, a science fiction panel was held with Ray Bradbury in attendance, so I took a few pics of that as well. All of photos can be found in the Gallery for your perusal.

Oh! And this weekend I am going to the Booster Events Blowout convention, featuring Jason Dohring, Francis Capra, and Michael Muhney from Veronica Mars! Whee! I’m so excited! Brendan Fehr (Roswell) and Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) will also be there, but I’m more of a VM fan than anything else. Anyway, loads of fun to be had, and hopefully, more pics to come!

It should also be said that I am posting this from Springfield, MO, on the last day of my trip to see a very dear friend of mine. It saddens me that I must leave already, but I guess that’s why it’s called a vacation. *sniffle* On the bright side, said dear friend of mine will be joining me in my city for… another convention in three weeks! Yay!

Vulkon Slayercon 2004, Day Two

Today was one hell of a jam-packed day!! Early morning start led to some wandering around, bouncing around the photo op lines while my friends waited for their pics with all the actors. Major squeeing for Alexis Denisof! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! He was wearing this blue shirt that absolutely complimented those beautiful blue eyes of his. I didn’t take a photo op with him, which I do regret, but it was awesome seeing [info]babysquid and [info]dee25x5 squeeing their way out of that one! [info]oanimation‘s deer-in-the-headlights look was adorable!

Photos: GotR @ El Rey

Aah, the days before digital cameras… how much I do *not* miss them. Mostly because the only kind of camera I had was a point-and-shoot 35mm. And these photos were taken with exactly one of those, meaning that they’re pretty crappy, but I still like them well enough to share…
